2 DIY Homemade Herbal Soap

While there are strict rules for ingredients which get used in food products, the same can’t be said about cosmetic products that we use daily. Several chemicals which are used in these products are actually more harmful than beneficial to people. Since these products are absorbed by the body when you use them they can get into our blood stream and create havoc within the body. Triclosan, formaldehyde, benzoyl peroxide, lye and sodium sulphate are some of the chemicals which are widely used in making soaps. These chemicals are extremely harmful for the body. We’ve shared today two homemade herbal soap recipes. Neem soap has amazing anti bacterial and anti fungal properties which fight all skin infections including acne and pimples. Hibiscus soap on the other hand will help you fight early signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles. It will also help improve skin elasticity making it glow and full of lustre. These recipes being made at home are totally free of any harmful chemicals, they are simple to make and very affordable as compared to soaps available in the stores.

1. Neem Soap

Ingredients

  • 2 handful neem leaves
  • 4-5 mango leaves
  • Handful of basil leaves
  • Fresh turmeric
  • Homemade rose water
  • Few drops of lavender oil
  • Sulphate free glycerine soap base
  • Zest of one lemon

Instructions

  • Wash all the leaves properly to remove all impurities
  • After washing, dip the leaves in water for some time
  • Add little bit of homemade rose water
  • Add little bit of fresh turmeric
  • Add all the leaves with rose water and turmeric into a grinder
  • Add zest of one lemon into the mixture
  • Grind the mixture and make a paste
  • Strain the mixture using a big sieve
  • Use double boiler (bowl in a bowl of water) method to melt the soap base
  • Once the soap base is almost melted, add the strained mixture
  • Add a few drops of lavender oil
  • Grease any plastic bowl or silicon mould using Vaseline
  • Pour the soap mixture into the bowl and let it set for minimum 4-5 hours
  • After 4-5 hours gently take out the soap from the container

Your Neem Soap is now ready to use.

2. Rose and Hibiscus Soap

Ingredients

  • 4-5 hibiscus flowers
  • 4-5 rose
  • Homemade rose water
  • Small piece of turmeric
  • 4-5 strands of saffron
  • Sulphate free glycerine soap base
  • Any essential oil

Instructions

  • Wash the rose and hibiscus petals properly (use desi rose)
  • Add these into the grinder with rose water
  • Make a paste of this mixture
  • Strain this mixture
  • Melt the sulphate free glycerine soap base using the double boiler method
  • Add the strained mixture into the soap base
  • Add a few strands of saffron (kesar)
  • Grease a bowl
  • Transfer the mixture into the bowl
  • Let the mixture set for 4-5 hours
  • Demould the soap carefully using a knife

Your Rose and Hibiscus Soap is now ready.

Both these soaps are extremely refreshing to use and they can be stored for upto a month.
