Dal Shorba

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp arhar (toor) dal
  • 2 tbsp masoor dal
  • 2 tsp chana dal
  • 1 medium carrot, chopped
  • 2 medium tomato, chopped
  • 2-3 garlic cloves, minced
  • Small ginger
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 4-5 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

    Instructions:
  • Rinse the lentils thoroughly and soak them for 20-30 minutes.
  • Chop garlic & ginger
  • In a pot, add cumin seeds and black pepper dry roast them on low heat
  • Add chopped ginger & garlic, dry roast
  • Add soaked lentils and water
  • Add turmeric powder, Cover and Cook until the lentils are soft
  • Chop carrot & tomatoes, add to the pot
  • Cook for few more minutes until the lentils are mushy when pressed
  • Switch off the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly
  • Blend the mixture it into a smooth consistency using a blender or immersion blender.
  • Return the blended mixture to the pot, adjust the consistency with water, and season with salt and other seasonings of choice.
  •  Simmer for 2-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  •  Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves, feta cheese and serve hot.
